Volunteering at RADC

Volunteer Registration
We are a 100% volunteer-run camp and rely on our adult volunteers to support creating an enriching and safe experience for all of our campers and program aides. NO PREVIOUS EXPERIENCE OR KNOWLEDGE OF GIRL SCOUTS IS NECESSARY. Many of our volunteers are NOT Girl Scout leaders – all you need is the desire to be fully present with the girls and have fun!
Why should you volunteer at Rainbow Adventure Day Camp?
  • $100 discount for registration fee for your camper.
  • For troop leaders, day camp is a great place to get new program ideas, learn new skills, and work with a different group of girls, or different grade-level of girls.
  • For moms of early-elementary campers, you can get to know our fabulous Program Aides and gain insights into the middle school and high school experience.
  • It’s rewarding to watch the campers gain confidence by trying new things, making new friends, and building on traditions.
  • IT’S FUN!!

There are lots of ways to help

Volunteers needed are for supervising the units while Program Aides are leading activities.  We also are in need of a health supervisor and covid coordinator (tracking check-in procedures and ensuring covid protocols are followed).  Those positions require a short online training provided by GSWW.

Usually girls are not placed in the same unit as a volunteer from their family, so that each girl and parent can go home telling their own amazing stories.

Requirements

All positions require a background check (valid for two years) and a valid 2021-2022 membership in Girl Scouts of Western Washington. The $25 annual membership fee ensures that you are covered by the Girl Scout liability insurance when you are volunteering at camp.

Before camp, we will have two training meetings to provide the information and guidance that is the foundation of a great camp experience for everyone.   We will attempt to have training in person, but have a zoom option as well.
Sunday, May 15, 3:00 - 4:00 pm - Kenmore Library (
6531 NE 181st St, Kenmore, WA 98028)
Saturday, June 4th, 10:00 - 11:30 am - Bothell Library (
18215 98th Avenue NE. Bothell, WA 98011)
Sunday, July 10th, 3:00 - 4:00 pm - Thoreau El Site Overview
We’ll talk about:
  • The Girl Scout Leadership Experience - What is it, and how do we provide the experience at camp?
  • Working with Teens - Teen Program Aides are an integral part of our program! What can we do to help them learn and grow in their leadership while at camp?
  • Safety - What systems and procedures are in place to keep our campers and volunteers safe and secure?
  • Unit Management - What do you do with a gaggle of girls that you've just met?
  • Online session management - how to work with Zoom and support your Program Aides

How to register as a volunteer

  • Register yourself, along with your camper, on the Registration page.
  • If you are a current volunteer with a current background check, you are done!  If not, continue the following process.

  1. To complete the required membership and background check, go to the Girl Scouts of Western Washington website at  http://www.girlscoutsww.org/en/for-volunteers/why-volunteer.html. Click on the green band that says Volunteer Today.
  2. If you are a current or previous volunteer with GSWW, you will already have an existing account. If you are a new volunteer, you may need to set up an account. After logging in to your account, you will be able to see if your membership is current and any Girl Scout volunteer roles you already hold.
  3. Click Add a Role. If you background check and membership are current, you will be able to select a volunteer role. The zip code field will be prepopulated with your personal zip code. DELETE YOUR ZIP CODE so that this field is blank. In the Troop Number field, type Kirkland and the volunteer positions for our day camp will appear. Select Unit Leader.
  4. Depending on your other volunteer roles, you may watch a 3-minute video about Girl Scouts and answer questions about it. If not already completed, you will also be led through the background check or membership renewal process.
  5. If you have any questions or problems, call GSWW Customer Care at 1-800-541-9852 and they will help you navigate the system
  6. For questions or more information about Rainbow Adventures, use the Contact Us form or send email to rainbowadventure@outlook.com.
