Day Camp Assistant Director
The Day Camp Assistant Director’s role is to assist the Day Camp Director with development and implementation of a volunteer-run day camp program that is consistent with the Girl Scout Mission, Program Goals, Promise, Law, and all Girl Scouts of the USA and Girl Scouts of Western Washington policies and health and safety standards. This role is meant to be to shadow and learn from the current director so the person can take over director position the following year.

Service Commitment: Day Camp Assistant Director is a one-year commitment, but its preferable to have someone who can learn from a previous director and stay in assistant or director role for at least 2 years. You can expect to provide a minimum of 60 hours of service, depending on the needs of the day camp. The service hours will be spread out over a planning and preparation period leading up to the opening of day camp in addition to the expectation that the Assistant Director be present for the duration of the camp.
Supervision and Support: The assistant day camp director will have the full support of the Director and the leadership team in learning how camp runs and with the tasks they are delegated.
Responsibilities:
- Attend or have a record of attending the following workshops: Outdoor Leadership, Event Director, Day Camp Director and Day Camp Leadership Retreats.
- Become/remain familiar with current Girl Scout resources, especially those relating to outdoor program safety, policies and organizational standards.
- Serve as part of the Leadership Team of the day camp.
- Attend all day camp Leadership Team meetings
- Assist Day Camp Director in all phases of planning and operation of the camp as assigned.
- Carry out the Day Camp Director’s duties when requested and/or needed on a temporary basis
- Support unit leaders, program specialists, station managers, program aides and other volunteers in the execution of their duties.
- Assist with preparation of closing reports and evaluations.
- Represent day camp and Girl Scouts in a positive light to campers, volunteers, guests, and the community.
Qualifications:
- Good organization and communication skills
- Detail oriented that can create and communicate out schedules effectively
- Ability to effectively manage a team of volunteers
- Ability and willingness to promote the Girl Scout program and become the director next year
- Bonus, but not required: Experience planning and implementing outdoor living and activity events
